Float Fish Farm is a profitable commercial fishery extending to 42.44 acres (17.1 Ha) comprising an impressive 200 peg complex offering 12 coarse fishing lakes, together with a significant online retail business. The site was purchased by the Hudson family in 2006 as agricultural land and has been developed into one of the largest commercial fishery businesses in the country.

Location
The site is located to the east of the village of Farcet, approximately 4 miles from the centre of Peterborough. The site has excellent transport links to the A1 (J.16 - 5 miles) and A14 (J. 21 - 17 miles).

The Fishery
The first lake at Float Fish Farm was excavated around 14 years ago, with the oldest match lake around 10 years ago. There are now a total of 12 lakes, with four specimen lakes and seven lakes catering for match and pleasure fishing. The site has good internal access offering ample car parking, including behind pegs.

FFF has a large following of anglers, the business communicates with customers via a steady and constant stream of media news, blogs and Facebook posts. The fishery offers club matches and opens, with a total of over 200 pegs fished between April to October. Fishing is on a day ticket basis, together with booking for specimen lakes and matches. The lakes include the following (in order of creation):

Home Lake - excavated in 2008, extending to 2.19 acres with 14 Swims and an average depth of 9ft. A mixed stock lake with specimen carp, catfish and bream.

Lapwing Lake - Excavated in 2011, extending to 3.87 acres, with 6 swims and an average depth of 10ft. A specimen carp lake stocked with fish to in excess of 45lbs.

Two Islands Lake - Excavated in 2011, a match and pleasure lake extending to 2.41
acres, with 34 pegs and an average depth of 13ft.

Horseshoe Lake - Excavated in 2011, extending to 1.04 acres, with 22 pegs and an
average depth of 9ft. Match record over 200lbs.

Kingfisher Pool - Excavated in 2011, a match and pleasure pool extending to 0.66 acres, with 16 pegs and average depth of 9ft.

Sand Lake - Excavated in 2012, extending to 1.93 acres, with 5 swims and average depth of 9ft. A specimen carp and catfish lake.

Tench Pit - Excavated in 2013, extending to 0.17 acres, with 3 pegs and average depth of 9ft.

Wagtail Pool - Excavated in 2015, a match lake extending to 1.78 acres, with 24 pegs and average depth of 9ft. Match record now stands at over 200lb with multiple bags per match often exceeding 100lb

Phoenix Pool - Excavated in 2015, extending to 2.24 acres, with 34 pegs and an average depth of 8ft.

Captain Tom's - Excavated in 2015, extending to 0.25 acres, with 15 pegs and an average depth of 7-8 ft. A canal shape lake, match record of 190lbs.

Kestrel Lake - Excavated in 2021, extending to 2.84 acres, with 13 swims and an average depth of 11ft. A deep L shaped lake with carp to in excess of 40lbs.

Nightingale - Excavated in 2022, extending to 0.25 acres, with 15 pegs and an average depth of 7-8 ft. A canal shape lake with a width of 16-18m.

The lakes benefit from a recently installed (2022) diffuser style aeration system
powered by the renewable energy generated on site.

Fish Stock
The match lakes have benefited from regular stockings from recognised suppliers, with fish at a few inches in size up to fish weighing in excess of 30lbs. This is in addition to thousands of fish bred and grown on site. The specimen lakes, including Home Lake, Sand Lake, Lapwing and Kestrel have significant stock of carp (up to 50lbs) and catfish to 65lbs+. FFF Retail
The fishery benefits from an onsite tackle shop, recently extended in 2021. Over the last 3 years, the online business has been growing exponentially through various online retailers, including Amazon and Ebay. The online business now serves around 1,600 - 2,000 orders per week. The website was refurbished in 2022, with three further platforms added which will see further growth in coming years.

Renewable Energy
The current owners took the forward thinking decision in 2008 to create their own off-grid renewable energy. Powered by 40 kw of Solar panels and a 20-kw wind turbine. This powers a 70kw grid, utilising 7 x 10kw Victron Inverters. A bank of 9 multi voltage charges batteries, powered by a 45kva diesel
generator when required.

A 48-volt 2,500-amp hour battery bank consisting of 24 x 2-volt DC wet cell batteries, which store power generated during the day via solar and wind, discharging during the night to run the whole site. The whole system is computer controlled. The site benefits from a Feed in Tariff generating

The Business
Income is generated by a combination of the online retail and business and on site sales (fishing and retail). Match bookings are currently 100% full for 2022 and 80% full for 2023. For the Yr ending April 2023, the business current trading is forecasted to turnover in excess of £1.8m with net profit Circa £400,000+ (Reconstituted). The business current trading for April to June 2022 is approximately 14% up in turnover compared to the same period last year.
