Linear Fisheries, Oxfordshire

Instructions

Fenn Wright have historically been involved with Linear Fisheries in providing consultancy advice. The Directors’ instructed Fenn Wright to provide specific advice on the opportunity for building a purpose built facilities building with tackle shop facility on the Linear Complex.

Advice

Although the fishery was well known to Fenn Wright, a site visit was essential to consider alternative sites in relation to accessibility, highways and location. Initial ideas were discussed with the Directors’ in relation to the scale of such a development and potential investment. Instructions were finalised for Fenn Wright to provide a detailed report on the feasibility for a facilities building.

The tackle trade is going through significant changes with many city and town based businesses struggling there has been a trend for tackle shops to be opened up on site. The advent of Angling Direct and Fishing Republic are also major considerations for owners to take into account before investing in such a facility.

Fenn Wright were able to analyse a large amount of data and prepare income and expenditure forecasts for a suitable facility as well as considering the physical design and potential costings.

Outcome

On the basis of the Feasibility Study, the fishery applied for an attained planning permission for an on-site tackle shop. The shop is currently undergoing construction with a view to opening for trade in early 2019.

As a major investment for Linear Fisheries, in a part of the fishery industry in which we were not experienced, Fenn Wright’s advice was crucial in pushing forward with the project. Their insight into the project, based on wide experience in the industry, gave us the confidence to build the shop.  Andrew Smith, Director, Linear Fisheries (Oxford) Ltd
